Daniel Dubois is looking to become world heavyweight champion again this weekend when he challenges Fabio Wardley for WBO glory in Manchester, live on DAZN.
Dubois has been around the business end of the division for several years now, after a blistering start to his professional career that saw him blast through several opponents and send a message that he was a dangerous fighter.
Before taking on the likes of Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk, Dubois built his name in the professional code rather than pursuing Olympic medals, and that journey allowed him to score some huge knockouts as he worked his way up the rankings.
One of these early wins came in 2017, when Dubois stepped up against the former Area title challenger David Howe.
Dubois wasted no time in asserting his authority on the bout, and after letting his hands go immediately, Howe was in trouble, with the fight called off after only 40 seconds.
Despite that setback, Howe would not be deterred, and he pushed on with his career, eager to put things right.
Winning his next fight, a six-round points win over Jay McFarlane, Howe appeared to be on the rise, but he was brought back down with a bump after suffering early stoppage losses to Gary Cornish and Kash Ali.
Further defeats to Dave Allen and Alex Dickinson followed in 2018 before Howe ended his career being stopped in the opening round by McFarlane.
Howe’s whereabouts in the sport today are unknown, but with Dubois on the verge of world title glory again, the Sheffield man can always claim he was able to share the ring with a future star.
