'Brings the best out!' - Amir Khan offers insight into difference between British and American sparring culture

Amir Khan has opened up about the difference between sparring culture in the United Kingdom and America, suggesting the latter approach "brings the best" out of fighters.
The former unified light-welterweight world champion trained in both countries throughout his career, first at home before crossing the Atlantic to the United States.
While sparring sessions in Europe have typically been closed-door affairs, events in America have typically been rowdier events captured frequently on tape.

Reflecting on his experiences with both, Khan suggested that the charged atmosphere of the latter format can sometimes deliver a confidence boost to fighters.
"The like to intimidate their fighters there, put you in the ring with whoever," he told The Stomping Ground's Beyond the Play. "But I think that brings the best of you.
You might not think you're ready, [but] if you can do so well then and hold your own, then you think you're doing alright. The confidence boost that gives you is amazing.
"I never turned down any sparring partners. I remember guys coming and [they would] jump in the ring. At the same time, you do want to show your ground in there as well."
Khan held WBA and IBF titles between 2009 and 2012 at light-welterweight, and previously secured a silver medal as an amateur at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.
He has not fought professionally since a loss to Kell Brook in 2022, leaving him with a 34-6 professional record that also saw him fight Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford.
