Hamzah Sheeraz believes Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez should put himself against the new super-middleweight breed.
The veteran Mexican has not fought since he was dethroned as undisputed champion by Terence Crawford.
The American's subsequent retirement scattered the belts last year though, leaving several stars chasing them.
Sheeraz, who beat Edgar Berlanga on his division debut last year, will face Alem Begic for the WBO title in May.
But speaking ahead of the bout, the Briton admits he would welcome a showdown with Canelo.
"It's an interesting one," he told Inside the Ring. "You've got these young guns coming through, like myself.
"I think it's time for him to give us the opportunity to prove ourselves and take over that number-one spot."
Sheeraz also welcomed suggestions that he could take a rematch at super-middleweight with Carlos Adames.
The Dominican forced a draw in his WBO middleweight defence, leaving the Briton keen to make amends.
"It'd be amazing," he added. "A hundred million percent. It'd be lovely to get back and show who I really am."

Hamzah Sheeraz won't be the first man to poke Canelo Alvarez, and he won't be the last man to do so either.
The Mexican has been quiet since Terence Crawford outclassed him in Las Vegas last year, nursing his wounds.
The scattered super-middleweight division does likely suggest the veteran will bid to return for a belt, however.
If so, Sheeraz has made it clear that he wants his name at the front of the queue to tackle him inside the ring.
First, however, he needs that title to defend - and he must keep his focus on Alem Begic next month in Egypt.
The WBO world heavyweight title is on the line for Fabio Wardley and Daniel Dubois on May 9, only on DAZN PPV. Buy as a one-off PPV or included, along with Usyk vs Verhoeven (May 23), with a DAZN Ultimate Tier subscription.
