In a statement, Reynoso said that he was not the coach or manager of Francisco Rodriguez, who was reported this week to have failed a drugs test following his victory over Galal Yafai at the end of last month.

Rodriguez, 40-6-1 (27), who took a unanimous decision over Yafai, 9-1 (7), was found by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) to have returned an ‘adverse analytical finding’, according to a statement from Matchroom.

Now, following speculation online, Reynoso has released a statement to distance himself from Rodriguez. Reynoso has been linked to Canelo, Jaime Munguia, and Julio Cesar Martinez, who have all failed drugs tests.

Reynoso said: “Given the recent comments and speculations about my relationship with boxer Francisco ‘Chihuas’ Rodriguez, it is pertinent to make the following clear: First and foremost, I am not Francisco’s coach or manager, whom I had the pleasure of meeting in person just yesterday. The support he was given was through the promotion and sponsorship of the No Boxing, No Life brand, who arranged three fights with Clase y Talento [a promotional firm linked to Reynoso] to try to support him in achieving a championship fight.”

It appears that Reynoso is referring, in his statement, to two fights that Rodriguez had with the Clase y Talento promotion last year – a first-round stoppage win over Jorge Ignacio Villalobos in August and a third-round stoppage over Jose Javier Torres in March. Both fights took place in Guadalajara. It is unclear as to which is the third fight that Reynoso is referring to.

He added: “In the way we supported Francisco, we have supported many fighters and we will continue to do so [as long as] God allows us to. Regarding the positive test result in his recent fight, it will be Francsico who will have to make the pertinent clarifications regarding the same.”

Reynoso went on to reiterate that he had no part in Rodriguez’s fight against Yafai in Birmingham. However, he did offer his support to Rodriquez so that he ‘may overcome this obstacle’.

The famed coach also complained that speculation had been made about his involvement in the career of Rodriguez, saying that it had emanated from a single photo showing the pair together, which was posted by Rodriguez to Instagram earlier this week.

Reynoso added: “In my position as a trainer or manager, I have nothing to do with my fighters’ nutrition plans. I don’t cook for the fighters, I don’t buy their food, I don’t give them supplements, I don’t recommend supplements, and I certainly don’t give them banned substances. I support drug testing and clean boxing, and I hope that everyone I work with shares the same values.”
