Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn will finally settle their differences in the ring this week, more than two-and-a-half years after they were first set to battle between the ropes.
The pair meet in a major middleweight encounter at London's Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, headlining The Ring's Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves on Saturday, April 26.
The grudge match of the decade so far sees two fighters keen to carve out their own lineage beyond the shadow of their fathers - and a piece of each other in the process too.
This long-simmering rivalry, born initially from that of Chris Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn, has twisted into something altogether more personal though since October 2022.
Then, the pair's original fight, scheduled for The O2 Arena, was pulled at short notice after Benn returned an adverse drugs test finding, further stirring the pot between them.
Ahead of fight night in north London, DAZN News takes a look at the Road to Tottenham for both men - and just how the intervening years have brought their destinies here.
In October 2022, Conor Benn looked poised to press on towards global glory and a world title shot, on the back of an unbeaten professional career in the ring to date beforehand.
As the WBA Continental (Europe) champion at welterweight for four years, he had racked up a string of impressive victories, including some brutally fast knockout results.
That included an eighty-second stoppage against Samuel Vargas, and a two-round blowout against Chris van Heerden. At 21-0, a chance to claim a major belt surely beckoned.
Instead, the attraction of a legacy bout rung loud enough for the star to move up to a catchweight ten pounds above his normal division to challenge the son of his father's rival.
But mere days before they were due to step into the ring after a tempestuous build-up, the clash was shattered when Benn's pre-fight tests came back with irregular results.
Though promoters hoped to still bring the fight to fruition, no viable path forward presented itself, and a crestfallen Benn took to social media, vowing to fight the decision.
"I am still completely shocked and surprised by this and it has been a tough couple of days," he wrote. "My immediate focus is on clearing my name because I am a clean athlete!"
With multiple investigations launched by various bodies over the adverse findings - taken in July and September - Benn began working his way towards countering the allegations.
An early boost came when the WBC restored him to their rankings in February 2023, suggesting the results could have been caused by an "elevated consumption of eggs".
But it would prove to be a short-lived success for the star and his family, with Benn subsequently suspended by UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) in March and prohibited from fighting.
A round of appeals to the National Anti-Doping Panel (NADP) paid dividends in July however, after they ruled to lift his suspension, seemingly clearing the way for his return.
But both UKAD and the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) opted to counter-appeal themselves, and in May 2024, Benn was once again suspended from competition.
This latest blow proved enough to pull the saga out to the two-year mark, as the star and promoter Eddie Hearn continued to challenge the decision to bar him once again.
Finally, in November 2024, the NADP ruled in his favour again, stating they were "not comfortably satisfied" UKAD and the BBBofC had proved Benn had made a violation.
Both bodies could have further appealed once again, but later that month, UKAD confirmed they would no longer pursue the case, freeing Benn to finally return to a British ring.
The interim period was not bereft of ring action for Benn however, who managed to squeeze two fights into the period between his suspensions across the Atlantic Ocean.
Having primarily fought on home turf for most of his career, the star headed to the United States to test his mettle and keep his fitness, even as the saga slowed his prospects.
After 525 days out of the ring, Benn touched down in Florida to fight Rodolfo Orozco in Orlando, scoring a unanimous decision victory against his opponent on his return.
But the performance went the distance in the sort of encounter the star could well have ended in a matter of rounds before the saga, with questions raised over his mindset.
The continued distractions seemed to play a part in another unanimous decision victory five months later, this time in Nevada as he scored his latest win over Peter Dobson.
Benn improved to a 23-0 professional record with both of those results - but despite convincing all of the judges, neither bout really did anything to burnish his reputation.
But nevertheless, with his second suspension reinstated only a few months later too, the battle began again - and the next time he met Eubank, sparks were always going to fly.
