Shields vs. Daniels - Saturday on DAZN - Subscribe

Claressa Shields says she is considering taking a step away from boxing in the next year to start a family ahead of defending her undisputed heavyweight titles this weekend.

The ‘GWOAT’ said that she has already given so much of her life to boxing and has put off having a child for too long.

Shields told Pivot Podcast: “I put too much time on hold for having a kid and being married and stuff for boxing.”

She revealed that she is thinking of taking a hiatus next year to start a family. This would not be the end of Shields as a boxer, but merely the start of a different phase in her career. If she does take a break, she intends to come back once she is fully recovered to fight and then take another break to have a second child.

Shields explained: “I might have a baby next year, we already have it planned out. “

She continued: “After I go through my stuff, then I will come back and fight some more. Then have another one and do the same thing again.”

Shields has already had a long, successful career as a double Olympic gold medallist and three-time undisputed champion and at 30 years old, she has some of her best years ahead of her.

But the undisputed heavyweight champion does not want to wait until she retires to start her family, saying she wants to enjoy her youth and her family together.

She said: “I don’t want to wait till I'm 40-43 after my career to have my kids, I want to be able to run at the park with my kids, I don’t want to be too old.”
