The skillful New Yorker had been in the ring with the likes of Manny Pacquiao and Errol Spence, and he was expected to provide Benn with a stern test, but Benn made a mockery of those opinions with a brilliant display that solidified his credentials at 147lbs. Benn made his intentions clear from the first bell with an aggressive approach that immediately put Algieri on the back foot. A left hook floored Algieri in the second round, and although the 37-year-old complained about the count, he could have no issues with the finish that came two rounds later. 

Loitering on the ropes, Algieri was plotting a counter, but a well-timed 1-2 from Benn ended any ambition that Algieri had left. A stunning performance was capped off with an even better finish. Benn is now ready to test himself against more prominent names in 2022, as he mentioned Amir Khan, Kell Brook, and Adrien Broner as potential opponents. 

On the undercard, Katie Taylor prepared for a possible megafight against Amanda Serrano next year with a hard-fought win over Firuza Sharipova. Taylor was pushed hard early in the fight, but after working the Kazakh out by the halfway point, the Irish superstar was able to take over and win convincingly on the scorecards.
