'I'm grateful!' - Dalton Smith ready to top bill in a new town this weekend

Dalton Smith admits he is looking forward to the challenge of headlining in a new city as he prepares to face Walid Ouizza in Nottingham this weekend.

The Sheffield native will fight for the vacant European super-lightweight title on Saturday at the Motorpoint Arena against the Frenchman.

Smith, the former British and Commonwealth champion, is looking to move up to contend for world title fights and knows that success here will send him on his way.

But it also marks a chance for him to headline away from his hometown at arena-level for the first time, and could prove a valuable learning curve there too.

"Fit, good, relaxed and I'm ready to put on a big performance on Saturday," he told DAZN's The Stomping Ground. "The arena [in Sheffield] wasn't available on this date.

"I've got some great support coming down, and they're going to be making some noise. It's good that I can headline in a different city and I'm grateful for that.

"I want every belt. I want that European title. Saturday night, we capture that European title and then we move on to those big fights

"For me, this is my world title eliminator, because I know what comes after this. I'm ready to take it on to the big fights."
