Danny Garcia vs Daniel Gonzalez: Who has the edge heading into their fight?
Parker vs Wardley exclusively on DAZN PPV - Oct 25

It could very well be the last fight of his career Saturday night when Danny Garcia clashes with Daniel Gonzalez at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Garcia, a former two-division world champion, is coming off a sluggish loss to Erislandy Lara in September 2024 when his corner ended the fight after the ninth round, marking the first stoppage defeat of his career.

If this is his final fight, Garcia (37-4, 21 KOs) will look for a punctuating, apt ending against a hungry Daniel Gonzalez (22-4-1, 7 KOs) who is coming off a unanimous decision over Michael Anderson last fall.

In his 10th career fight at Barclays Center, will Danny ‘Swift’ Garcia deliver an electric performance to give it a memorable final bow? Or will Gonzalez ruin the night with an upset victory?

DAZN News analyzes who has the edge heading into this weekend’s bout.

Boxing Styles

Danny Garcia is measured with his offense — sometimes to a detriment as he does not let his hands go enough. But he is a potent counterpuncher.

His shots tend to be clean while carrying impact and that goes for everything from his power jab to left and right hook.

That style will be up against a Daniel Gonzalez who works behind an energetic, shifting guard and off the jab, but is not timid about mixing it up on the inside in spurts.

Both styles have their merits though Garcia should be able to catch Gonzalez with clean shots if he times them well.

Edge: Garcia

Power

Garcia counts triple the knockout victories of Gonzalez, having stopped the likes of Amir Khan, Brandon Rios and Adrian Granados to name a few over his career.

Power is said to be the last attribute to go in a fighter which will make it interesting to see if Garcia can stop Gonzalez if this is indeed the Philadelphia fighter’s final bout.

Mental Warfare

Garcia is coming off an uninspired fight against Lara last year in which he was physically fit, but his heart and soul were admittedly not in the bout.

He vows the time off has served him well and he will be mentally primed to thwart Gonzalez.

On the flip side, Gonzalez, from Queens, New York, has nothing to lose and everything to gain off Garcia’s name if this is the latter’s last bout.

Garcia will have to prove that he is ready for this bout and has the heavy experience edge against the superior competition to draw from to deliver another convincing performance.

Who has the edge in Garcia vs Gonzalez?

Danny Garcia told DAZN News there’s an 85 percent chance this weekend will mark his final bout unless he fights so well and feels good enough to continue trying to box.

Whether Garcia fights just well enough to win on points or stops Gonzalez with a punctuating knockout, ‘Swift’ still has the tools at 37 to have his hand raised.

It is why DAZN News is giving him the 3-0 edge to either wrap up his career on a winning note in his final farewell or continue to scrap thereafter.
