There’s a reason Derek Chisora is a fan favorite in England and beyond. More times than not, he has lived up to his in-ring moniker of ‘War,’ providing spectators with indelible fireworks and moments.
The 42-year-old Chisora (36-13, 23 KOs) has shared the ring with some all-time great heavyweights in Tyson Fury (three times), Oleksandr Usyk and Vitali Klitschko to name a few. With the Brit set to do battle with Deontay Wilder at the O2 Arena in London, and live exclusively on DAZN PPV, on Saturday night for his 50th professional bout, DAZN News looks back on ‘War’ Chisora’s five most memorable fights.
Chisora, then with a 15-2 record, was 28 when he challenged WBC heavyweight world champion Vitali Klitschko in Munich back in 2012.
Instantly, Chisora pressured the champ as a forward-fighting force, refusing to take a back step.
Though Klitschko’s experience and pointed boxing edged Chisora out in a lopsided unanimous decision, the British fighter more than earned some mettle in the process.
Even in a loss, Chisora accrued ring savvy that would help him later in his career as a result of experiencing these rounds.

An entertaining buildup between two of England’s favorites led to pure fireworks at Manchester Arena in a back-and-forth fight where both Dillian Whyte and Chisora had their shining moments.
Whyte was the sharper boxer of the two, while Chisora brought the ‘War’ with his unrelenting pressure inside. At the end of 12 grueling rounds, judges called it a nip-and-tuck split decision for Whyte by the scores of 115-114 and 115-113 to Chisora’s 115-114. Though he was eked out, Chisora did plenty to raise his fighting profile with his showing during the action-packed bout.
Two years later, the heavyweights would meet again — this time at O2 Arena. Another all-out battle would ensue with Whyte emphatically closing the door on the rivalry with a blistering 11th-round knockout.
Frenchman Carlos Takam had suffered a 10th-round TKO loss at the hands of Anthony Joshua in October 2017 and was trying to rebound against Chisora.
Bad idea.
Takam was ahead on points and using his boxing skills to outclass Chisora. However, the British fighter dramatically altered the trajectory of the fight by launching a wicked overhand right that blasted Takam on the top of his head and forcing him to taste the canvas.
Seeing Takam’s legs sapped, Chisora unloaded a compact right hook to produce the scintillating eighth-round TKO in securing the amazing rally.
In Oleksandr Usyk’s second test at heavyweight, Chisora welcomed him to the division rather unceremoniously. The veteran muscled Usyk around, weighing in at 38 more pounds than the Ukrainian.
Although Usyk’s brand of sweet science proved too much for Chisora to overcome, ‘War’ was gritty right till the end, even having success in the ninth round.
Chisora fell short on the scorecards via a unanimous decision loss, but it wasn’t for a lack of heart and toughness.
Joe Joyce was favored by oddsmakers heading into his dustup with Chisora at the O2 Arena.
What he got was an absolute brawl, which ‘War’ highlighted by a raucous right hand knockdown in the ninth round to power a stunning unanimous decision upset.
