Hall returns to the boxing ring for the first time in March 2022, when he lost via decision to strongman rival Hafthor Bjornsson in Dubai. He has also competed in an MMA fight. Back at KSW 105 in April 2025, Hall fought fellow World's Strongest Man Mariusz Pudzianowski and won via stoppage in 30 seconds. 

Getting back into the boxing ring wasn't on Hall's radar. The 38-year-old had other plans in mind. However, a recent incident with Fury's father, John, really bothered Hall, and the fight with Tommy quickly came together. Hall had no problem obliging and promised to take his frustrations out on the 60-year-old.

"Honestly, flabbergasted," Hall said at Tuesday's press conference to officially announce the fight when he got a contract offer from John Fury. "I wasn’t expecting a fight with Tommy to be offered if I’m being honest. I was after something else. Look, if John wants to put his youngest son for sacrifice, like a sacrificial lamb, so be it. Let’s do it." 

Many had expected John to be at the inaugural press conference. But it was announced early into the presser that he wouldn't be at the presser due to an illness. Hall wasn't buying what was trying to be sold.

"John Fury is a big bully of a man," Hall said. "Headbutting midgets, slapping doors, whatever. 

"When he comes up to someone his own size, he p—s out."

Fury quickly intervened to let Hall know that his dad would be there for all of the fight week festivities.

“We’ll see on fight week when he’s here,” Fury interjected. “Live and in the flesh.”
