Eddie Hearn has said he wants to line up Kell Brook as Conor Benn’s next opponent.

Benn defeated Chris van Heerden on Saturday night to retain his WBA Continental title, and now appears on the cusp of a world title fight.

The 25-year-old Briton was joined in the ring after the stoppage by Amir Khan, who fought and lost against Brook this February. Both fighters were quizzed on a potential match-up but neither of them seemed too keen.

Speaking after the fight to the BBC, however, Been said he would take on all comers.

“They can put me in with King Kong, I ain’t too fazed. Every single time I back it up, I mean what I say,” he said.

“I knew I was gonna knock him out, it was just a matter of time.

“Most definitely. If they offered me the world title next I'd take it, we’d take it. I’ll fight next month.”

Discussing Khan joining him in the ring, Benn said it was not entirely a serious play.

“I just saw certain reports that he fancied a fight with me and I gave him a chance to express that. He didn’t seem too keen,” he said.

Matchroom head Hearn followed up by praising the performance to deal with Van Heerden in just two rounds, and went on to suggest Brook would be the perfect opponent.

“I didn’t think it would be a destruction that early. It took Conor Benn all of one round to get used to Chris van Heerden’s southpaw stance, and then he destroyed him,” he said.

“He’s the most exciting fighter in the country. Now is the time for the step up this summer. No other boxer is fighting across the country like this.”

He continued: We’d like Kell Brook, to establish the best welterweight in Britain. And that’s [Conor Benn]. He’s one of the top fighters in the world right now.

“The education has been perfect, the development has been perfect. Now’s the time to buckle up. It’s time for us to let him go and let the L plates off. He’s the real deal.”
