The Dallas Police Department released a statement that said Spence has been charged with DWI.

 

Spence was involved in a one-car accident at 2:53 a.m. Thursday morning when he was thrown from his Ferrari and the vehicle flipped over several times. The 29-year-old wasn't wearing his seat belt.

 

Spence was rushed to a nearby Dallas hospital but fortunately didn't suffer any broken bones and only some facial lacerations. 

Before the police department put out their statement, Spence took to social media for the first time since the accident, posting on his Instagram account: “No broken bones I’m a savage!!” The post has since been deleted. 

Spence (26-0, 21 KOs), a resident of the Dallas suburb of DeSoto, last fought on Sept. 28 when he defeated Shawn Porter via split decision in a scintillating battle to unify the WBC title with his IBF championship. He is expected to face former unified junior welterweight champion and former WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia on Jan. 25. No word on whether the accident or subsequent charges will have an impact on whether the bout will take place as planned.
