After Fabio Wardley became the WBO heavyweight champion, his mandatory challenger was Moses Itauma. Just the thought of Wardley-Itauma is salivating to fight fans.
However, Wardley chose a different route, the voluntary path, and will take that turn on Saturday when he makes his first title defense against Daniel Dubois from Co-op Live Arena in Manchester, England, live on DAZN PPV.
Why go with Dubois instead of the heavyweight sensation who has breathed some new life into the division? Wardley was asked this question after Friday's weigh-in at the DAZN Cauldron. Jordan asked if Dubois was the easier fight than Itauma as "Dynamite" is coming off a loss to three-belt heavyweight kingpin Oleksandr Usyk in July.
“No, it’s not an easy night’s work by any means,” Wardley told Jordan. I’m not known for taking an easy night's work. I’m known for picking the best, biggest challenges out there."
Will Itauma be next if Wardley gets Dubois? He wouldn't even give a hint.
“Before Daniel, it was Joseph Parker," Wardley said. "Once I’m done with him, I’ll be picking the best names out there as well.”
The WBO world heavyweight title is on the line for Fabio Wardley and Daniel Dubois this Saturday, May 9, only on DAZN PPV.
