Frank Warren was quick to applaud the efforts of both Daniel Dubois and Fabio Wardley following their stunning and unforgettable heavyweight encounter that was eventually won by Dubois .
The London man was dropped with the first attack of the fight and was down once again in the third session when it looked like Wardley was about to enjoy an early night.
Instead, Dubois rallied and began to use his jab and, after landing several right hands, his confidence grew as each round passed causing substantial damage to the right eye and nose of Wardley.
Several observations from the referee and ringside doctor suggested Wardley was on borrowed time, and he continued as best he could to flip the fight back in his favour following a spell of dominance from Dubois.
In round 11, Wardley, who many believed should have been rescued by his corner, was caught with a huge right hand from Dubois and that prompted the intervention of Howard Foster who saved Wardley for another day following one of the best fights ever seen inside a British ring.
Straight after the fight, the attention switched to what would come next for both men and although a rematch clause exists for Wardley, Frank Warren, the promoter of both men, is eager to see both have a well-deserved rest.
“There is a rematch clause, but I don’t think that’ll be happening anytime soon,” said Warren when talking to Talksport .
“They’re going to have to be out of the ring for a little while yet. Probably six months at least. It was just amazing. It was one of the best shows I’ve ever put on.”
