George Groves explains why Canelo Alvarez is a fighter on the decline
Watch Canelo vs. Munguia live May 4 on DAZN PPV

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez may be the favourite going into Saturday's fight with fellow Mexican Jaime Munguia on DAZN PPV, but there is still a lot of pressure resting on his shoulders.

Over recent months the undisputed super middleweight champion has been hit with claims from those within the sport that he is on the decline.

Alvarez currently boasts an 60-2-2 (39 KOs) record, and there is no doubt 64 fights as a professional will take its toll on a fighter, even on someone as talented as Alvarez.

This is something which was discussed by former super middleweight champion George Groves, who explained why Alvarez is on the decline and how his fighting style has changed as a result.

"Yeah, he fights differently now, there's almost a lot less head movement," Groves told talkSPORT.

"He used to box like a young, fresh fighter now he just bullies people and maybe that is because he's now at super middleweight and he's heavier and denser.

"Remember he had those taxing fights against Gennady Golovkin which ultimately he came out on top of but they were hard fights, taxing fights and he's been around forever.

"He has been competing at the highest level for a very long time.

"He's an incredible fighter and he's still the best super-middleweight in the world and it's not as if he is on shaky legs but at some point somebody could pip him."
