Gervonta Davis responds to President Trump's verbal attacks on Baltimore

During the post-fight press conference that followed Gervonta Davis' second-round TKO of Ricardo Nunez in Baltimore on July 27, the WBA super featherweight champion was asked about President Donald Trump's verbal attacks on Baltimore.

Before Davis could even answer, Floyd Mayweather Jr. tapped him on the arm, took the microphone and said "We love the city of Baltimore and we like to stay positive," essentially speaking for the Baltimore native and opting to not take Trump to task for his remarks.

During a recent appearance on SiriusXM's "Sway In The Morning," Davis was once again asked about Trump's Baltimore insults, and this time "Tank" wasn't held back.

"I really don't pay attention to that," Davis began saying in reference to Trump's comments. "He just said it right before the fight. He said something about the people, too, I think. From him saying that and then I had the fight, it just showed him like you're just on the outside looking in. You don't really know what's going on.

"And if you feel as though it's messed up here, come help us," he added. "People always want help. Try (to) better us, instead of talking down on us."

Davis' words come after Trump found the time to let his Twitter fingers loose late last month, referring to parts of Baltimore as a “disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess” where “no human being would want to live.”

Davis' homecoming fight drew nearly 15,000 people at the Royal Farms Arena and marked a great sense of pride for the city, which has delivered a spirited response to Trump's insults  since.

In the days leading up to the fight, Davis was presented with a key to the city from Baltimore Mayor Bernard Young. In continuing to speak on "Sway In The Morning," Davis also said that he's trying to work with Mayor Young to buy some of the homes in West Baltimore, fix them up and rent them out at a cheaper rate than what they would normally run.

Davis still trains out of the Upton Boxing Center in Baltimore.
