David Benavidez can become a three-weight world champion, with Jai Opetaia tipping the star to dethrone Gilberto 'Zurdo' Ramirez.

The WBC light-heavyweight title holder will vault up to cruiserweight to challenge the Mexican for his WBA and WBO straps this May.

Benavidez, who outclassed Anthony Yarde in his last title defence, is considered one of the sport's finest pound-for-pound operators.

Ramirez meanwhile may hold more titles in his division, but is regarded by some as behind IBF champion Opetaia in the hierarchy.

Regardless, Opetaia believes Benavidez may have the edge in their clash, with the IBF champion stressing he wants the winner next.

"I like Benavidez's headspace," he told the Mr. Versace podcast. "He seems like he's more hungry. I don't know too much about Zurdo.

"He's a good fighter. I never thought he was a bad fighter or anything like that. I'm not badmouthing him. But [Benavidez is] pumped up.

"It's an even matchup. I'm sort of leaning towards Benavidez. [But] I just want this fight to be done so we can get ours on [with the winner]."

Opetaia is in action this weekend against Brandon Glanton in his debut with Zuffa, and is due to fight for their own cruiserweight crown.

Despite the Australian's claims the body will not block his own undisputed pursuits, questions remain over whether his IBF title is on the line.

Opetaia offers support for future foe?

Jai Opetaia has been doing the rounds plenty this week as he prepares for life with Zuffa - and the cruiserweight favourite has spoken.

In backing David Benavidez over Gilberto 'Zurdo' Ramirez, the star is expecting a sea change near the top of the division to join him.

The Australian has not been shy on his opinions about the Mexican before, having failed to secure a unification clash for his two belts.

As with Chris Billam-Smith, another would-be rival the Sydneysider has blasted in recent days, there could be some anxiety at play too.

Opetaia is confident his Zuffa tenure will lead to an undisputed cruiserweight path - and if so, he looks to be scoping out one foe already.
