Jake Paul once again sent shockwaves throughout the boxing world on Wednesday with the announcement that he will face WBA lightweight champion Gervonta 'Tank' Davis in November.
However, 'The Problem Child' also seemingly hinted at a future bout against a physically bigger boxer than Davis, who tips the scales at 135 lbs.
Paul, who has fought at cruiserweight in every one of his contests except for last year's heavyweight bout against Mike Tyson, had been reportedly in talks to face two-time unified world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, but The Ring reported that discussions broke down over broadcast issues, paving the way for the MVP founder to face Davis instead.
Taking to social media to address the official announcement of the Davis fight, Paul denigrated his opponent's size and pledged to "disable" the three-weight world champion. Interestingly, he also used Davis' smaller stature to purportedly tease a fight against a larger opponent in the future.
"Yes, he’s [one] of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the world, but my motto is anyone, anytime, anyplace, against all odds," Paul wrote about Davis on X (formerly Twitter). "And I like my odds.
"First, I am going to kill David, then I will go on to slaughter Goliath."
Could Paul be implying that Joshua, who stands at 6-foot-6 and regularly fights at over 250 lbs, is the "Goliath" in this situation? Or is the reference to the Biblical giant less literal and instead a reference to another boxer of massive notoriety?
Knowing Paul, it could be anyone.
