Any fight marks an abrupt end to speculation Paul was on the cusp of signing a deal to fight former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua for the latter's comeback.

The Ring suggests that discussions between the pair collapsed over broadcast issues, with the MVP founder - who last fought at cruiserweight - now due to meet Tank instead.

Speculation that Paul and Davis could clash was floated earlier this year as the latter prepared to face Lamont Roach, only for the former to shut down talk after the pair's draw.

Speaking in May, Paul suggested that any bout would have to be an exhibition, and would be held at 195lbs over ten three-minute rounds, despite the latter's typical 135lb weight.

It marks a major turnaround in expectations, with 'Tank' having been expected to pursue a rematch against Roach after suffering the first blemish on a pristine professional record.

Joshua meanwhile had been heavily linked to face Paul in a bout that would have sent shockwaves through the sport's upper divisions as the latter continues to prepare his return.

The Briton has not fought since September last year when he was stopped by Daniel Dubois in their IBF title fight, falling short in his bid to become a three-time world champion.
