“I respect what Nate’s done in his career, but that goes away when we step in that ring," Masvidal said in a pre-fight event in his hometown of Miami. "I only have one thing on my mind. I’m gonna put an end to this rivalry."

The men last fought in Nov. 2019 in the UFC, with Masvidal coming away with a TKO victory after the cage-side doctor called an end to the bout before the start of the fourth round. Diaz had sustained a cut over his right eye and the doctor determined that he would not be able to continue, leading to Masvidal claiming the "BMF" title that was on the line.

Diaz desired a rematch but never got one in the Octagon, but now Masvidal hopes that their boxing match will definitively prove that he's the better fighter.

“I want to take the judges and referees and doctors out of it and leave it up to my hands and get him out of there Kimbo Slice style. Dade County style. These people here want that violence," Masvidal said.

“It’s a badge of honor to face someone who’s willing to put it all on the line. That being said, I’m gonna end this guy on June 1.

“This BMF belt shows that if you get after it, you can get it done. It doesn’t matter who you are, you just gotta put aside the nonsense.”
