Chris Billam-Smith had to rebuild from a hard-fought points loss to Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez in November 2024.
After successfully returning to the ring last year, the British cruiserweight looks to continue his upwards swing tonight when he clashes with Ryan Rozicki at the Bournemouth International Centre in Dorset, England.
Billam-Smith (21-2, 13 KOs) rebounded from the defeat at the hands of Ramirez by scoring a unanimous decision over Brandon Glanton at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in April 2025.
A confident Canadian in Rozicki (21-1-1, 20 KOs), who counts all but one of his 21 victories by knockout, awaits. He produced a second-round stoppage of Gerardo Mellado this past March, with Billam-Smith this weekend easily marking his steepest challenge yet.
Will Billam-Smith show Rozicki there are levels to boxing with a decisive victory? Or will the Canadian deliver the biggest win of his career with an emphatic statement? DAZN News probes into the Keys to Victory for both cruiserweights.
Considering 20 of his 21 victories have come by the way of knockout, Ryan Rozicki is going to pressure and fight forward.
The onus is on Chris Billam-Smith to stand his ground against that pressure by picking off an incoming Rozicki with stinging jabs and crisp combinations. CBS has the skills to manufacture the space he needs to effectively operate and keep the points tallying in his favor.
Anticipating there will be sequences where Rozicki is successful with his forward fighting, Billam-Smith might need to respond by boxing on the back foot.
That said, he must make sure that these occurrences aren’t too often during this matchup. Still, Billam-Smith can still pick Rozicki apart with slicing combinations while on the back foot.
Rozicki can be reckless while plowing ahead, showing a lax guard or a complete lack of defense altogether. That might make a sharply timed uppercut from Billam-Smith just the right offering to put the Canadian in the blender.
Pressuring ahead while dictating the action is Ryan Rozicki’s style. Though Chris Billam-Smith possesses the skills to methodically break him down, Rozicki cannot abandon his aggression now.
He must be himself in fighting forward and unleashing power punches.
Though he ultimately fell by unanimous decision, Brandon Glanton had success punching in traffic with Billam-Smith, especially with a looping left hand.
Rozicki ought to take heed and punch in traffic with CBS too. Considering his noted power, Rozicki teeing off in cramped quarters can lead to paydirt especially if he can land a whiplashing left of his own.
Far too often, Rozicki shows laxes of his guard. CBS is much too skilled of a boxer to let this happen without consequences as the British fighter will likely carve him up with pinpoint output.
Therefore, Rozicki must show a high, disciplined guard that he maintains tightly over the course of this fight to increase his upset chances.
Despite his power, Rozicki lacks the ring experience that Billam-Smith carries. In fact, tonight’s fight marks the first bout of Rozicki’s career that he’s boxing outside of his native Canada. I believe CBS outclasses Rozicki, showing the Canadian the levels to boxing.
