Lawrence Okolie has returned an adverse finding in a VADA anti-doping test ahead of his heavyweight bout with Tony Yoka.
The Briton, a former two-weight world champion, was due to face the Frenchman at the Adidas Arena on Paris this Saturday.
However, his bout is now in major doubt, with promoter Queensberry Promotions confirming the news on Tuesday morning.
"Last night, the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) informed Queensberry that Lawrence Okolie returned an adverse finding following an anti-doping test conducted ahead of the show in Paris this Saturday," read an official statement.
"A further update regarding the event will be made in due course."
Okolie, the onetime WBO cruiserweight and WBC bridgerweight title holder, was hoping to build towards three-weight status this year.
Ranked first at heavyweight with the WBC, victory against Yoka could have theoretically set up a bout with interim champion Agit Kabayel.
The German has been angling for a shot at full belt holder Oleksandr Usyk in recent months, with the Ukrainian next set to face Rico Verhoeven.
The WBO world heavyweight title is on the line for Fabio Wardley and Daniel Dubois on May 9, only on DAZN PPV. Buy as a one-off PPV or included, along with Usyk vs Verhoeven (May 23), with a DAZN Ultimate Tier subscription.
