Wood vs. Warrington predictions - who wins and why?

Prediction: Josh Warrington

I’m expecting revenge for Josh Warrington in Nottingham.

He only lost the first fight because of a split-second lapse in concentration, and already in the build-up, Warrington is aware that his career hinges on this rematch.

Warrington will also be going up against a vulnerable Wood, who suffered a brutal beating at the hands of Anthony Cacace last year. For all that Wood has achieved, it feels like he has close to being done with the sweet science and could confirm his retirement regardless of the result.

Therefore, I think a more motivated Warrington, with sights set on a final world title charge, will spoil the party in Nottingham.

Prediction: Leigh Wood

Over two years on from their first contest, and some setbacks along the way before this rematch, assessing these versions of Wood and Warrington before they meet for a second time is perhaps just seeing who has more left.

Both men have had long, hard careers filled with ups and down and it is fitting that they are meeting at this career stage as this could be the ideal fight for both men to bow out on.

With Wood holding the advantage in the series following a stunning knockout in the first fight, the pick is for him to weather another early storm before finding a big shot in the second half.

This is a grudge match that needs to be settled but with plenty miles on the clock for both veterans, it could come down to who has faded the least in recent years.

Both men have lost to Antony Cacace since they first faced each other in October 2023 and it is unclear what either fighter has left at this stage.

One thing is certain, though, and that is we can expect another exciting battle between these two warriors.

The once famous engine of Warrington doesn’t purr like it used to and a less energetic version of the Leeds man could be a sitting duck for the heavy hands of Wood.

I am going with Wood to win by stoppage again, somewhere in the second half of the contest.

Early pressure from Warrington should lead to pointed retorts from Wood in another seesaw battle.

However, I expect Warrington's urgency to shine through late in this fight as he wills himself to do just enough forward fighting to sway scorecards in his favor for a redeeming win.
