Liam Cameron recovered from a difficult start to secure his first victory in four fights with a spirited come-from-behind triumph against Troy Jones at Manchester's Co-op Live.

The Sheffield fighter secured a surprisingly wide 97-93, 96-94, and 96-94 unanimous decision against his domestic rival to put his recent disappointments behind him.

A second-round reverse to Ben Whittaker in the pair's highly anticipated rematch in April raised questions over 'Cannonball's next move, having turned 35 just a few weeks ago.

But after stepping in to replace Daniel Lapin for this contest, the star showed characteristic guts and determination to weather a tough opening and prevail on the scorecards.

Birmingham-born star Jones may have every right to feel aggrieved after a contest he seemingly dominated for the first half, but ultimately paid the price after letting his grip slip.

With no home advantage for either man, road support seemed to favour Cameron amid the ringwalks, but it was his foe who came out of the traps faster across the early rounds.

Eight years younger than his opponent, Jones made ample use of his jab to keep his opponent at bay throughout the opening exchanges, building body shots with shrewd pace.

Smarting from a bloodied nose after the third round, Cameron duly sought to improve his own workrate in the fourth, working to exploit a swolen left eye suffered by his rival.

A lost gumshield in the fifth did not seem to deter Jones however, though his momentum was checked at the end of the sixth after he was deemed to have landed a low blow.

Cameron subsequently emerged rejuvenated from his corner for the seventh, and despite a warning for a hit below the belt of his own, recorded his best round of the contest.

That experience helped him continue to build back into the fight in the eighth, further opening up his opponent's eye and landing the crisper blows to further improve in the ninth.

Both men went to the well in a scrappy final round bidding, and Jones seemed more celebratory at the final bell - but it would be Cameron who had the last laugh in the end.
