Nathaniel Collins and Cristobal Lorente have unfinished business to attend to when they meet tonight at in Glasgow, live and exclusive on DAZN .
The pair arrive at The OVO Hydro with the stakes higher than ever, as they contest a WBC featherweight final eliminator to face Bruce Carrington.
When they fought six months ago, one judge just couldn’t declare the winner, forcing a split draw between the Scotsman and the Spaniard instead.
Now, both will push for a final verdict in their rivalry - but will it be Collins who realises his potential, or Lorente who earns a big-win opportunity?
DAZN News analyzes the Keys to Victory between these fighters heading into their rematch.
Revisit the initial clash between Nathaniel Collins and Cristobal Lorente and one will note how the former did an excellent job early of digging that front foot into the canvas and applying pressure with that pesky jab.
Well, Collins must manage the same tonight as doing so in early rounds will empower him to set the terms of their ring real estate and possibly keep him ahead.
Many points along their first fight had Collins as the sharper boxer, repeatedly beating Lorente to the punch.
Collins should look to keep that trend going during this rematch and he can achieve this key by making sure his jab is followed by flurries and combinations that pepper Lorente and force the Spanish fighter back.
The Scot has the hand speed and in-ring command to do this with consistency.
The combination of pressuring off the front foot with the jab and piecing together quick combinations will be aided by Collins keeping his punch volume high.
When he let up a bit during their initial clash, Collins allowed Lorente to rally back into the fight. With so much on the line, Collins cannot afford to let that happen again and maintaining a high output throughout will be a major key toward staying in the lead and having his hand raised in victory.
Cristobal Lorente feinted and postured far too much early against Nathaniel Collins, as it wasn’t until the fifth and sixth rounds until he really started letting his hands go.
In tonight’s rematch, Lorente must look to be aggressive early, making it a point to be more active with his attempts from the onset.
Lorente cannot afford to let Collins walk him down with pointed pressure.
He could stand up to that force by punching in traffic and timing Collins for a heavy-handed counterpunch inside. He was successful doing this in spurts during the sixth round of their fight in October and will need more of these moments of winning the battle in the center of the ring with pocket presence.
Plus, forcing inside action will allow Lorente slow the fight down to a grinding pace that suits his style.
Collins does not always tuck his chin, making Lorente’s hook just the apt weapon to launch around the guard in cramped quarters.
If served with timing, Lorente can dramatically tilt the needle in his favor with this shot.
