Oleksandr Usyk will defend his WBC heavyweight title against Rico Verhoeven on May 23 as the next journey on his incredible roadshow heads to Egypt with the Pyramids of Giza set to provide the backdrop for his latest title defence .

Usyk has not fought since last July and on that occasion, he ventured to London as he stopped Daniel Dubois for a second time at Wembley Stadium.

Before that, Usyk had been involved in a terrific series against Tyson Fury as he beat his great rival twice, and now it will be another Fury who will be hoping to mastermind his downfall.

Introducing DAZN Ultimate Tier

Over the weekend, it was confirmed that Peter Fury, Tyson’s uncle and former trainer, will be in Verhoeven's corner, as the Dutchman looks to cause one of the biggest upsets in boxing history.

Fury has experience of taking a fighter to the world heavyweight title as it was him who was in the corner of Tyson when he defeated Wladimir Klitschko back in 2015, but the pair were no longer together when Tyson returned from a long absence in 2018.

“It's going to be a great night,” said Fury on a video posted on his X account.

“A lot of hard work to be done but two great people and two great champions in their own right. What a privilege. Looking forward to this camp, and God will decide whatever happens.”

Usyk vs Verhoeven will take place on May 23 and will be shown live exclusively on DAZN .
