Rico Verhoeven had the chance to make history and pull off one of the greatest upsets ever in boxing when he challenged Oleksandr Usyk on Saturday for his WBC heavyweight world championship from the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt, live and exclusive on DAZN Pay-Per-View and the DAZN Ultimate Tier.
For nearly 11 rounds, Verhoeven was fighting the perfect fight, making Usyk look ordinary, and widely led on the scorecards. Usyk dropped Verhoeven with about 25 seconds left in the round. Then Usyk threw a flurry of shots after the bell had sounded, and yet the referee stepped in to stop the bout in the worst stoppage of heavyweight title fight history. DAZN News had the fight scored 98-92 for Verhoeven at the time of the stoppage.
