Oscar De La Hoya has weighed in on the Gervonta Davis knee' controversy, with the Golden Boy supremo and boxing legend believing the star should have been deducted a point.

Davis made the latest defence of his WBA lightweight title on Saturday night against Lamont Roach which was ruled a majority draw with two judges scoring the fight 114-114, and the other 115-113 to Davis.

There was only one major talking point from the contest and that was Davis deciding to take a knee in round nine which referee Steve Willis decided to not rule a knockdown before 'Tank' went back to his corner to get his face wiped.

This incident sparked outrage in the boxing world with many feeling that Roach was robbed of his crowning moment and stating that Davis should have been deducted a point. If this had happened, this would have likely given Roach the edge on the scorecards and the WBA lightweight title.

Speaking on DAZN's Ariel x Ade: The Boxing Show, De La Hoya was of the opinion that Davis should have been deducted a point.

"In any sport you can take a timeout, football, basketball. Not in boxing, there’s three minutes for a reason, there’s a referee for a reason," De La Hoya said.

"If you go by the rules and what the rules are in New York, then that should be a point, he took a knee, that should be an automatic point. You go to your corner, you're taking time off, it should be an automatic point.

"I think the decision, I think the draw is okay, the fight was an even fight, Lamont Roach did a terrific job.

"Look Gervonta Davis is a great fighter, but he met his match, Lamont Roach. If I go by the book and the rules, then Lamont Roach should have won because a point should have been taken off Gervonta Davis, but who knows what the commission is going to do."

On Monday, the New York State Athletic Commission, which was overseeing the fight, made a statement explaining that they will be reviewing the non-knockdown call and why their video replay system was not working on fight night.

Depending on the outcome of the review, it may see Davis lose his unbeaten record along with the WBA lightweight title which will be awarded to Roach.
