Richard Torrez anticipates a fast start fron Frank Sanchez in Giza on Saturday, but says the Cuban is there "for the taking".
The American faces off with his opponent in an IBF heavyweight eliminator, live on DAZN Pay-Per-View and Ultimate Tier.
Victory for either man places them as the sanctioning body's lead contender to challenge Oleksandr Usyk later on in 2026.
But while respectful of his rival's powers, Torrez hopes the encounter can be a statement benchmark for career progression.
“I think Frank’s a great fighter,” he told The Ring. “[But] being able to compete is going to showcase where I’m supposed to be.
"I think my style does well against Frank. My pressure, my tenacity and my grit toward the end of rounds is a little troubling.
"He’s gotten bigger over the years, more muscular and a little bit more sturdy. That's going play into the body shots even more.
"I think Frank is going to do very well in the first three rounds. But [after] we get through that, I think it’s mine for the taking."
Twenty-seven in just under a fortnight, and with the world potentially at his feet, Richard Torrez seems tired of waiting now.
As the heavyweight division faces a reshuffle over the coming years, the American is ready to seize his shot at the big time.
Turning over Frank Sanchez will be the kind of statement that he wants on his resume - and he will be determined to take it.
That doesn't mean that Torrez is out to trash talk his foe. He is aware of the Cuban's own reputation and major aspirations.
But if he is to join Moses Itauma on the fast-track to the summit, this is the kind of bout he will need to take by the horns too.
Oleksandr Usyk puts his unbeaten record on the line against Rico Verhoeven on Saturday, May 23, in front of the Egyptian pyramids, live and exclusive on DAZN. Buy as a one-off PPV or included, along with Zayas vs. Ennis (June 27) PPV, with a DAZN Ultimate Tier subscription.
