Jack Catterall's bid for the boxing summit has been realised with part of the WBA welterweight crown after turning over Shakhram Giyasov in Egypt.
The Chorley fighter knocked down his previously unbeaten foe early on and proceeded to outclass him en-route to the sanctioning body's Regular strap.
Having pursued a major crown for so long, Catterall is now in prime position to secure a shot at Super champion Rolando Romero and his belt next.
But for Giyasov, the former amateur whizz faces a rebuild to earn his spot near the top of the rankings back after a difficult night at the Giza necropolis.

Having put his shot at the top on the line against Catterall, the Uzbek fighter suffered a maiden pro reverse after a tough period outside the ring too.
Highly feted by several powerbrokers, Giyasov struggled to find his upper gears, though a few late flourishes hinted towards the best of his abilities.
The star is likely to take some time away from the ring before mounting a return - but his backers will still believe he can be a live threat at welterweight.
Expect a lower-ranked foe for a comeback bout later in 2026 - and with victory, perhaps another blue-chip contender as he takes aim at the summit again.

Four years on from his controversial super-lightweight title shot loss to Josh Taylor, 'El Gato' appears poised to finally right those wrongs a division above.
Success here - and with one of his most aggressive performances to date - will tee up a shot with Rolando Romero as the next likely move for Catterall.
Of course, questions linger over whether the American will take the bout - but if he does not, the Briton should be elevated to the full crown in his place.
That would make it mission accomplished for Catterall, who could pursue unification with WBO champion Devin Haney or take on another challenger himself.
