Undisputed women's super bantamweight champion Ellie Scotney had a choice: defend against interim WBC titlist Skye Nicolson or vacate the title. Scotney has chosen the latter.
It was announced on Wednesday that Scotney had vacated her WBC belt. The good news for Nicolson is that she's now been elevated to full WBC champion.
In her last time out at the end of April, Nicolson took care of business, dominating Mariah Turner by unanimous decision in her native Australia to retain her interim belt. At that time, Nicolson made it clear she wanted to make a megafight with Scotney for all the gold.
"Ellie Scotney, you've got all the belts," Nicolson had said in her post-fight interview. "I'm next in line. Let's make it happen for the fans."
With Scotney out of the picture, a new opponent has emerged for Nicolson in the form of former two-division world champion Miyo Yoshida. A date and location haven't been revealed as of this writing.
Yoshida (19-5, 1 KO), a former super flyweight and bantamweight champion, has won back-to-back fights since losing the IBF bantamweight title to Shurretta Metcalf in October 2024. She also competed in April, stopping Edith de Jesus Flores in the sixth round.
