Tim Tszyu has put himself forward to fight Jermell Charlo after Brian Castano dropped out of the planned fight on March 19th.

Castano’s bicep muscle tear means that organisers may decide to call off the event, but the 27-year-old Australian wants to move up the card to challenge for Charlo’s three junior middleweight titles.

Tszyu is the current WBO mandatory but Castano was given the greenlight for the undisputed clash, and he had instead been down to fight American Terrell Gausha in the co-main event.

The fighter’s manager, Glen Jennings suggested that he could step up to headline with Charlo.

“So you’ve all heard the news that Brian Castano has withdrawn from the rematch with Charlo with a bicep injury,” Jennings said, reported BoxingScene.com.

“The big question that everyone is asking is where does that leave our planned co main event card for Tim.

“We have said all along we won’t sit and wait, we will stay busy, the titles will come in due course and so we will work our way through this and keep you all posted.

"We have put it out there if Castano is out, we will happily step in and take Charlo. Stranger things have happened. Tim and our team are ready to go regardless of who stands in front of him in the ring in March."

Jennings made it clear they are ready for any outcome.

“We don’t have all the info to be able to make an informed decision, but together with promoters we are working through the options and doing whatever is necessary whilst waiting for the outcome,” he continued.

“Boxing is a tricky business at best, so these things happen, injuries occur beyond our control and so you have to remain flexible and positive and work hard to ensure the best outcome for your fighter, team and fans.”
