Tyson Fury casts fresh doubt over ring return: 'What do I want to get back into boxing for?'

Parker vs Wardley only on DAZN PPV - Saturday

Tyson Fury has poured water on the prospect of returning to boxing next year for a potential all-British showdown with Anthony Joshua or a trilogy fight with Oleksandr Usyk.

The former unified heavyweight champion said he has nothing left to chase in boxing after previously suggesting he was planning to make a retirement U-turn.

"There's no actual reason for me to go back in the boxing ring," Fury told YouTube channel FurociTV. "I'm 37 years old, I've been punched for the last 25 years, what do I want to go back to boxing for?

"It used to be for the money, the titles, but now I've got more money than I can spend, I've got unlimited amounts of belts and titles, and does it make me any happier? No.

"Was the chase better than the victory? Yes. The climb was better than the mountain peak, to be fair. Always the case.”

After Fury beat Wladimir Klitschko in 2015 to win his maiden world titles and become a unified champion, he openly struggled with mental health and addiction.

He eventually found his way back with the added motivation of fighting Deontay Wilder for the one belt he had never held, the green and gold of the WBC, and produced a fantastic trilogy of fights before coming up against Oleksandr Usyk in 2024.

Fury 'officially' retired from the sport in January after back-to-back losses against Usyk, but has changed his mind on this on more than one occasion, even posting a fight announcement for him and Usyk to face each other next year.

Frank Warren recently revealed that Fury had been eyeing a return to the ring in 2026, with one last shot at Usyk at the top of his list, but after Usyk’s team downplayed the likelihood of that happening, the Brit looks to be closing that chapter of his life and enjoying life outside the ring – valuing his health over another paycheck.

"You could offer me £1bn today, and it wouldn't move the needle,” Fury explained. “Because I've gone past that point of caring about what other people think.

"Boxing doesn't take any prisoners; it only takes casualties. So for me to be sat here, all my faculties in order, won every belt, made loads of money and not got a scratch on me, I've done really well there.”
