British heavyweight and fan favourite Dave Allen is ready to be proven wrong in tonight’s WBO world heavyweight title fight between Fabio Wardley and Daniel Dubois.
Wardley will make the first defence of his title, exclusively live on DAZN PPV and DAZN Ultimate, at Manchester’s Co-op Live, and it’s a contest which sees two fighters with 95% knockout ratios go head-to-head.
The boxing world is expecting a Fight of the Year contender, and one week later, there is another big heavyweight fight taking place when Allen faces Filip Hrgovic, live on DAZN.
But before Allen takes on the giant Croatian, he gave his prediction for Wardley-Dubois.
Speaking exclusively to DAZN News, Allen was excited about what could be in store at the Co-op Live this evening.
“It’s the best heavyweight fight there is to make,” Allen said.
“They are not the biggest names in the world, but someone is going to get knocked out.”
When it came to picking a winner, Allen chose Dubois, but he did admit that Wardley always proves him wrong, and he would not be surprised if it happens again.
“I’ll pick Dubois, I always pick against Wardley because he’s got no amateur experience.
“But he keeps proving me wrong, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he proves me wrong again.”
Throughout his career, Wardley tends to turn fights on their head and get the victory when seemingly so close to defeat.
His clash with Justis Huni last June saw him land a decisive knockout blow in the 10th round despite the Australian cruising towards a comprehensive win on the scorecards.
Four months later, Wardley did something similar, this time against former world champion Joseph Parker who dominated their bout for long periods before Wardley stopped him in the 11th round.
It would not be a surprise if Wardley did something similar on tonight, but Dubois is by far the hardest puncher the WBO champion has faced since turning professional nine years ago.
The WBO world heavyweight title is on the line for Fabio Wardley and Daniel Dubois this Saturday, May 9, only on DAZN PPV. Buy as a one-off PPV or included, along with the Usyk vs Verhoeven (May 23), Fury vs. Hall (June 13) and Zayas vs. Ennis (June 27) PPVs, with a DAZN Ultimate Tier subscription.
