The first contest between the fan favourites took place in Sheffield two years ago with Warrington dominating until the seventh round. 

A trademark Wood right-left combination then floored Warrington who beat referee Michael Alexander's count. However, Alexander then stopped the fight at the end of the session making Wood the victor. 

Since that night in the Steel City, both men have gone their separate ways. Warrington suffered a loss to Anthony Cancace last year before beating Asad Asif Khan in April, while Wood has fought just once, and that was in May when he suffered a brutal stoppage defeat to Cacace in Nottingham. 

With world title opportunities looking out of reach for both Warrington and Wood, a rematch which will bring a huge pay day seems like the next logical step.

However, giving an insight into negotiations, Warrington revealed that plans for a rematch have been in the works for two years, but more often than not, the talks have broken down and the fight shelved. 

"We’ve been negotiating for a fair amount of time. I would say for two years we’ve been on and off, but things have got in the way," Warrington told talkSPORT. 

"The way I liken it, it’s like trying to buy a house, many solicitors and other people getting involved, a massive, long chain, once it breaks down, that’s it.

"I’m at the stage now where the fight is not official until the public knows about it."
