Zak Miller's choice to vacate the British featherweight champion is "a business thing" but the star hopes he can face challenger Rhys Edwards "for something big" down the line.
The incumbent Commonwealth champion faces Lyon Woodstock this weekend on the undercard of Jack Rafferty and Mark Chamberlain's bout in Altrincham, live on DAZN.
Having earned both titles in a majority decision victory against Masood Abdulah in February, Miller had been expected to defend both of his straps in his next domestic bout.
But after the British Boxing Board of Control ordered a mandatory defence of the Lonsdale Belt against Edwards, the fighter decided to vacate it to proceed with other plans.
Now, as he prepares for his latest Commonwealth defence, Miller has revealed that he still hopes to have a chance to square off with Edwards for a bigger prize in the future.
“It's a business thing. I’ve won the British title, I was never going to stick around and defend it outright,” he told The Ring. "You've got to move on.
"You’ve got to see how far you can go in the sport. In my eyes, some people want to stick around and they want to defend it three times and keep it
"But I just want to collect as many titles as I can. I believe the fight with Rhys Edwards is a cracking fight. I'd love that fight but it deserves to be for more than the British title.
“I think Rhys would say the same. He’s a good lad, he's a good fighter - we both are - and hopefully we can get a fight in the future but for something big."
