Conor McGregor feels Kamaru Usman should get a 'smack' for 'copying' him at UFC 261

Kamaru Usman made an emphatic statement in knocking out Jorge Masvidal at Saturday's UFC 261 to retain the welterweight championship.

The next destination for Usman is set as he'll be in another rematch, this time against arch-rival Colby Covington later in 2021. If he wins, what would be next for the dominant titleholder since he's already beaten a good chunk of the possible challengers at 170 pounds?

Conor McGregor, who takes on Dustin Poirier for the third time at UFC 264 on July 10, took to social media on Sunday morning to comment on Usman's KO of Masvidal. McGregor feels Usman is trying to mimic him after the latter said in an interview in the buildup to UFC 261 that fighting him is like “Green Panty Night,” a reference to McGregor’s famous “Red Panty Night” quote a few years back. The former featherweight and lightweight champion says he'd like to let Usman know that he’s the original version of what Usman’s doing and they should settle the score inside the Octagon.

"Usman even copying my shots now. Am I to fight this guy at some stage? I think so. Can’t be copying my words and my shots and not get a smack for it. I like 170. It’s mine soon."

"I’m a block at 170 guys. Give me till end of year at this 155 weight. I’ll get the strap and then I’ll go up again. After green fungus panties hahaha “cos any one of these fools can get it” – usman"

McGregor's bout with Poirier is at lightweight. Seeing McGregor's posts on social media, Poirier suggested the fight take place 170 since their first contest took place at featherweight for their UFC 257 fight, which Poirier won via second-round TKO and took place at lightweight. McGregor shut the idea down quickly.

McGregor's fought at welterweight three times, going 2-1 with victories over Nate Diaz and Donald Cerrone.
