Having defeated Jalin Turner at UFC 313, Ignacio Bahamondes reflected on his opponent’s decision to immediately retire following the fight.
"I was a little surprised because he’s a really good fighter," Bahamondes told DAZN News of the 29-year-old Turner, who left his gloves in the Octagon after submitting in the first round. "He’s still young."
The result of that bout bumped Bahamondes up the UFC lightweight rankings, with the 27-year-old Chilean fighter now in 15th place. Bahamondes did not want to leave Turner behind though, offering to train with his former opponent in an attempt to keep him in the sport.
"He still has a lot more to give to this sport," Bahamondes explained. "I told him, "Don’t do that (retire). If you need to, come down here to Chicago and stay for a couple of months. We’re going to show you we are a different team. We are a family. We want to give you the attention you deserve. And after that, you can make a decision. But maybe we can help you love this again."
