'Nothing inside!' - Lewis McGrillen-Evans explains mental preparations and 'war trim' mullet for PFL battle

Lewis McGrillen-Evans says that he is "nothing inside" him before his biggest fights, before he contests the PFL Europe Bantamweight Tournament final versus Alexander Luster.

The McGrizzla will chase the belt at LDLC Arena in Lyon, France on Saturday as part of 2024's PFL Europe Championship, with the event set to be broadcast live around the globe on DAZN.

McGrillen-Evans holds a 10-1 record so far in MMA and came through a brutal contest with Peter Garnett to book his place across the English Channel against the German.

Speaking to DAZN News before the fight, the Manchester-based fighter has now revealed how he finesses his mental state before he enters the cage, and what changes inside him.

"I’m putting my music on, I’m warming up and I’m going into that mindset where I feel I’m slowly changing," he said. "Everything changes in my mind – I turn colder, I turn empty.

"There is nothing inside me. No emotion, nothing as I get closer to that cage. When I make that walk, I slowly turn into something. It’s not me anymore, and I’m just ready for war."

McGrillen-Evans also expanded on his idiosyncratic haircut, with the star's fiery red mullet as much of his visual appeal as his ruthless style against his opponents to date.

The Briton admitted it forms part of his key preparations, adding: "I’ve always liked long hair., but I couldn’t always be bothered to take care of it. I like a mullet. I think it suits me

"I don’t cut my hair while I am in camp – I let it grow out and I look scruffy, as rough as anything. Then the week before, I get a war trim and I’m ready to go."
