Retired boxing world champion issues dire warning to Conor McGregor over lifestyle

Conor McGregor may end up regretting his lifestyle choices when he eventually returns to action, says Ricky Hatton.

McGregor is recovering from a toe injury suffered in preparation for his UFC return bout against Michael Chandler, which was originally supposed to headline last weekend's UFC 303 event.

But while McGregor insists that he'll be back in the Octagon after his injury heals, former two-weight boxing world champion Hatton has questioned whether the Irish MMA superstar will be able to bounce back after more than three years off.

At issue for Hatton is the way McGregor has been spending that time away from competition, with the former two-division UFC champion not afraid to take advantage of the comforts and excesses that his celebrity affords. Hatton compared McGregor's lifestyle away from the cage to his own three-year hiatus leading up to his final professional fight in 2012.

"I wasn't doing good things to my body and I wasn't doing good things to my mind," Hatton told Prime Casino. "I don't know, but my guess is Conor's probably done the same in the three years he's had off, not being very kind to his body.

"My body, sooner or later, turned around and said 'I know you've been doing this all your career but it can't do it anymore’. But some people come back stronger, I'm just thinking because of Conor's mentality and Tyson [Fury]'s mentality and my mentality being similar, we're not going to spend three years off going to the museum, or going for Sunday afternoon walks over the hills."
