Heavyweight contender Johnny Fisher has split from his long-term trainers Mark and Jimmy Tibbs in the wake of his knockout loss to Dave Allen.

Fisher and Allen faced each other in a rematch at the Copper Box Arena in May following their controversial first fight that saw Fisher declared the winner despite many feeling Allen had done enough to get his hand raised.

Fisher started the rematch brightly but was knocked down by Allen in the fifth round, and after rising on unsteady legs, he was sent to the canvas by a huge left hook as the referee waved the fight off.

Following the first defeat of his professional career, Fisher has now opted to make a change to his corner.

Dave Allen-Johnny FisherIn a statement posted on Instagram, Fisher wrote: “It is with a heavy heart that after almost five years of being on this professional journey together, me and Mark have decided to part ways.(Mark Robinson/Matchroom Boxing)

“Boxing is the toughest sport in the world, and to continue I feel I need a fresh start to get the best out of myself. Me and Mark have made some special memories and reached some milestones in my career that many thought we never would achieve.

“More importantly than all of this though is the friendship we have gained, and to know that I have Mark and Jimmy in my life and to be able to call them both friends is an honour.

“Thank you for everything. Johnny.”

Fisher’s father, John, who has been alongside his son throughout his career, commented on the post, adding: “Mark and Jimmy are 2 great men and I thank them wholeheartedly for what they have done for Johnny.”

Fisher started working with Mark and Jimmy Tibbs ahead of his professional debut in February 2021.

The pair guided Fisher to the Southern Area heavyweight title in just his 10th bout, and he went on to claim the WBA Inter-Continental heavyweight belt three fights later.

But Fisher is now looking to regroup after losing to Allen in devastating fashion. His next fight is yet to be scheduled.
