Tottenham Hotspur snatched a dramatic late victory against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, with Brennan Johnson's goal deep into stoppage time the difference in a 2-1 win.

Johnson's goal secured all three points for the North London side after Tottenham had levelled earlier in the second half, nullifying Brighton's first-half lead obtained through a 17th-minute penalty kick.

The result allowed Spurs to leapfrog Aston Villa into third place in the Premier League, although the Villans are due to play Manchester United on Sunday.

Regardless, it was a happy ending for the faithful at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, one that manager Ange Postecoglou credited to an improved second half from his side.

"It was a great finish for us and the supporters," Postecoglou told BBC Match of the Day.

"It's a reward for our second half efforts but we weren't great in the first half. Part of that was because Brighton are a great team and we lacked some discipline."

Postecoglou also noted that he had more options to call upon on Saturday than in recent matches, with the recently returned South Korea international Son Heung-min once again providing a crucial burst of quality when needed.

"It's fair to say that we are still a work in progress but we had a world class player in Son, who makes the most difficult ball look simple to set up Brennan [Johnson]," he said. "Going into the game we looked at the squad and knew we had the ability to change it up. It's fair to say that helped up.

"Brighton tried to contain us and looked a bit fatigued so it was good to be able to bring players on."
