Former Arsenal player says Real Madrid 'will be scared' to play at the Emirates

Anders Limpar believes Arsenal could defeat Real Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The Gunners are once again in second place in the Premier League and unlikely to catch leaders Liverpool by the end of the season, a scenario that has led to the club and manager Mikel Arteta to draw criticism for not being able to take advantage of the downfall of four-time reigning champions Manchester City.

Additionally, Arsenal are out of the FA Cup and did not make it to the Carabao Cup final, leaving only the Champions League as a potential route to a trophy this season.

However, the London side will next go up against Real Madrid, the most successful club in UCL history. It's a daunting challenge for a side starved for silverware, but former Gunner Limpar thinks Arsenal could give the Spanish giants cause for concern — especially in the first leg at the Emirates Stadium.

“People say that with Arsenal there is always another season like Netflix, but the story this season hasn’t finished yet," Limpar told SveaCasino.se.

“Arsenal could win the Premier League next year but they could still win the Champions League this year.

“Arsenal may well be afraid of going to play Real Madrid [at the Santiago Bernabeu], but Real Madrid will be scared of playing Arsenal at the Emirates and that’s what you have to remember.

“Real Madrid like winning in the last few minutes but it’s a 50/50 game and a semi-final spot is up for grabs for Arsenal. Without a doubt.”
