Madrid looked to have won the game twice, after leading 2-1 and then 3-2, only for the home side to stun their Spanish opponents with a last-minute equaliser.
It leaves the tie all-square as it opens the second leg of the games on Tuesday, with neutrals hoping for another entertaining showdown between the two contenders.

Club Brugge vs. Atletico Madrid will take place at 5.45pm GMT on Tuesday, February 24, in the Champions League.
That means that fans watching in the US and Canada can see the game at 12.45pm ET and 9.45am PT, while it's a 4.45am kick-off on Wednesday, February 25, for fans in New Zealand.

Julian Alvarez - Atletico Madrid
The former Manchester City man remains Madrid's most dangerous weapon, who has enjoyed being the main man since moving to the Spanish capital.
Alvarez has already notched 13 goals this season, five of them in Europe, and has already netted against the Belgians in the first leg.
Aided by the evergreen Antoine Griezmann and shiny new star Ademola Lookman, Atletico have plenty of firepower in attack.
Christos Tzolis - Club Brugge
One for the 'Premier League players that time forgot' game, Tzolis spent two seasons with Norwich City earlier in his career, but is currently playing his best football with the Belgians.
The Greek winger tops the assists chart in Belgium, having provided 10 goals for his teammates this season and will once again be Brugge's main line of creativity.
He's not shy about finding the net himself either, as Atletico found out in the first leg with his last-minute equaliser for the Belgians.
