Blackpool boss Ian Evatt: We executed our game plan perfectly

Ian Evatt was pleased by the way his Blackpool side executed their game plan to claim a 3-1 win against Peterborough.

A Dale Taylor brace and one from Tom Bloxham helped the Seasiders to another vital win in the battle at the bottom of Sky Bet League One.

Blackpool comfortably saw things out, despite playing the final half-an-hour with 10 men after a red card for Fraser Horsfall, as Posh failed to add to Brandon Khela’s equaliser.

“I thought we were brilliant for large parts of today, we executed the game plan superbly – we pressed them, we had energy, we had legs, we had intensity,” Evatt said.

“Whether it’s the Blackpool way or not, we just don’t make it comfortable or easy for ourselves – that game should’ve been extremely comfortable.

“We were in total control in the first half and we made an individual mistake, and then after one error, the guy put it in the top corner. You just think ‘everything seems to be going against us’.

“We responded. In the second half we were on top, we needed the goals and we got them.

“When we’re in control again, we make another error, and now we’re going to be missing Fraser for two games – which is hard to take when we’ve done so much right.

“We mustn’t forget the good work we’ve done, we were outstanding – I enjoyed what I saw today.

“We’ve lost some confidence post-Christmas, but we’ve worked a lot on the training pitch on how we play.”

Peterborough boss Luke Williams admitted his side were second-best and was disappointed by the way they started the contest.

“Very poor – we looked overwhelmed at the beginning,” he said. “It was a decent atmosphere and it didn’t look like we were calm in that – it was good aggression from the opposition man-to-man.

“There was good intensity and we didn’t deal with that. We are a far better team than what I’ve seen in front of me today, but we were second-best in every way.

“They were man-to-man all over the pitch, and if we tried to go behind them then they’d send the ball back. They did it so well and we couldn’t cope with it. It’s very disappointing.

“For the most part we couldn’t suppress and we struggled to recover the long ball. We struggled to stay calm when we landed on the second ball and there were so many unforced errors.

“We’re allowed an off day, and I’ve seen far better performances from us. It was a difficult game and we were well below our best.

“We looked sloppy and didn’t cope with the level of football well enough for 90 minutes – it’s costing us.”
