David Seaman lists the two positions Arsenal should strengthen

David Seaman would like to see Arsenal find a new striker before the transfer window closes, as well as a player who could step in for Bukayo Saka from time to time.

The Gunners are gearing up for another Premier League season in which they are considered the main threats to Manchester City's reign as champions. Arsenal finished second to the Sky Blues in each of the last two campaigns, and nearly every pundit has identified the need for the team to reinforce at the striker position if they are to take hold of the league crown for the first time in two decades.

However, former longtime Gunners goalkeeper Seaman believes his old club also needs some further depth out wide.

"I'd like to see some sort of backup for Saka," Seaman told Betway. "At the end last season we saw when Bukayo was out, [Gabriel] Martinelli went onto the right side, and he's a right-footer and it didn't work as well because they like to show down the right and then cut inside. It didn't work because we didn't have cover for Saka.

"Then the question mark's always about a striker. Do we need a striker? Do we need a [Erling] Haaland-type? There was a lot of talk with [Ivan] Toney coming, and then they were chasing another striker but that’s not worked out.

"I think it gives different options to what they've got. But then, [Gabriel] Jesus, if he has a season without injury, put him in the box and he's one of the best. He really is one of the best, he's so calm.

"City did it without a striker before Haaland and that's what Mikel [Arteta]’s probably looking at.

"I'd like to see a striker and a backup for Bukayo. Midfield, for me seems OK. I think [Thomas] Partey is going to be staying now because there was talk of him leaving. He needs a long, injury-free season as well."
