For World Cup 2026, kicking off in 46 days time, Adidas and FIFA  have teamed up once again to produce this year's match ball, the  Trionda.

Here's what we know about the new match ball.

With the World Cup taking place in three countries — Canada, Mexico and the United States — the official match ball will feature three prominent colours, one for each of the host nations.

The red, green and blue colour scheme is the trademark of the Trionda, a name which FIFA says can be translated from Spanish as “three waves.”

“The Official Match Ball for the FIFA World Cup 26 is here and it's a beauty!” FIFA president Gianni Infantino said in a statement. “I am happy and proud to present TRIONDA. adidas have created another iconic FIFA World Cup ball, with the design embodying the unity and passion of next year's host nations Canada, Mexico, and the United States.”

“I can't wait to see this beautiful ball hitting the back of the net. The countdown to the greatest FIFA World Cup ever is on – and the ball is rolling!”

Along with the colour scheme, the match ball will also feature iconography for each of the three North American countries: a maple leaf for Canada, an eagle to represent Mexico and a star for the USA, along with gold embellishments to "pay tribute to the FIFA World Cup Trophy."

What technological innovations are incorporated into the Trionda?

The match ball has a four-panel construction that connect to form a triangle in the centre, with FIFA stating that the design "incorporates intentionally deep seams, creating a surface that produces optimal in-flight stability by ensuring sufficient and evenly distributed drag as the ball travels through the air. Additionally, embossed icons that are only visible up-close elevate grip when striking or dribbling the ball in wet or humid conditions."

Following in the footsteps of Qatar 2022's Al Rihla match ball, the Trionda will feature a 500Hz motion sensor chip that will send real-time data to match officials to aid in decision-making, including offside calls.
