World Cup Power Rankings: DAZN experts predict the winners of Groups A-F

The World Cup is almost here with the opening match taking place on Thursday.

Mexico and South Africa will kick off the biggest ever edition of the tournament with 48 teams taking part, which means an expanded group stage.

These 48 teams have been split into 12 groups of four, meaning an extra knockout round, the Round of 32, has had to be implemented.

As part of the DAZN World Cup Power Rankings, our team have made their predictions for who will come top of Groups A-F in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Group A

World Cup Power Rankings Group A

Seeing Mexico at the top of Group A is no surprise, with all of their group games being played in their home country.

Mexico finished third in their group four years ago and missed out on the knockout stages, and anything but a place in the knockout stages in this year's edition will be a huge disappointment, especially with home advantage.

When it comes to second place, our experts expect it to be a tight battle between South Korea and South Africa, with the Czech Republic finishing bottom.

Group B

World Cup Power Rankings Group B

Switzerland are predicted to be the clear winner, and it's no surprise.

They may not be a team full of big names, but they are a solid outfit and clearly have the best squad compared to Canada, Qatar and Bosnia & Herzegovina.

Just like Mexico, Canada will be expected to land a place in the knockout stages with home advantage, but Bosnia & Herzegovina may have the ability to spoil the party and surprise a few despite our experts predicting them to be joint bottom with 2022 hosts Qatar.

Group C

World Cup Power Rankings Group C

Group C contains footballing powerhouse Brazil, who will be looking to end their 24-year wait for a sixth World Cup.

DAZN's experts have predicted Brazil to win this group, but expect them to be run close by African champions Morocco, who are fast becoming one of the must-watch teams at any international tournament.

Scotland and Haiti make up the other two spots. The Scots are appearing at their first World Cup since 1998, and while many are not expecting them to make it out of the group, the Tartan Army will provide plenty of noise during football's biggest party.

Group D

World Cup Power Rankings Group D

Our experts believe the fight for top spot will be a close one in Group D with very little separating Turkey and tournament hosts USA.

Turkey have often been a hipster's pick to perform well at any major tournament, and they will likely be the same here, but with the USA managed by Mauricio Pochettino, there are high expectations for them to perform on home soil.

Australia and Paraguay make up the rest of Group D, and are not expected to make much of an impression.

Group E

World Cup Power Rankings Group E

Group E at this year's World Cup has only one clear winner, and that's Germany.

According to our experts, they are streets ahead of Ecuador, the Ivory Coast and Curacao, which serves as no surprise.

Second place will be hotly contested, however, with very little separating Ecuador and the Ivory Coast, who were once the powerhouse of African football.

These two teams going head-to-head in the opening round of group matches and the result could be pivotal in who secures a place in the knockout stages.

Group F

World Cup Power Rankings Group F

Out of the first six groups at this year's World Cup, our experts predict Group F to be a tight one.

The Netherlands are favourites, and only just, but they do possess star quality names such as Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Frenkie de Jong.

Japan and Sweden however should be confident they too can secure top spot.

Japan know they can mix it with the best international teams on offer, just take their win over Germany four years ago, or March's victory against England in March as perfect examples.

Sweden are also peaking at the right time under Graham Potter, and they too have some standout names including striker Viktor Gyokeres who will be full of confidence after winning the Premier League with Arsenal.

DAZN News will reveal the power rankings for the remaining groups on Friday, June 5.
