The milestone appearance for Stones suggests he's still very much the first choice for interim boss Lee Carsley, but there remains some doubt as to what England's first-choice centre-back pairing is. 

Now, former Three Lions defender Wes Brown has spoken exclusively to DAZN, thanks to Instant Casino, on the possible candidates for England's backline.

Brown said: "There's (John) Stones, who has been injured a lot. You've got (Marc) Guehi, who comes in and plays really well, and then you've got (Harry) Maguire, who doesn't play a lot for his club, but when he plays for England, he doesn't really put a step wrong as well.

"I think we've been short for centre-backs for many years. I think a good one would be seeing how Esri Konza plays this year.

"But you've got to play Stones if fit. You probably would go Guehi for the simple fact he will play every week for his club. But Maguire will make that difficult for him. 

"We do need some more options there, I will say. It's a tough one for any manager because when you've got good players but they're not playing week in, week out, it can affect you a little bit and it affects the selection a touch. You just hope that your players are playing as simple as that."
